Neighbors who live near the BioLab chemical fire in Rockdale County are now saying it’s making them sick. Conyers resident Andy Owens told Channel 2′s Audrey Washington that he had to go to the hospital after he fell ill.

County officials said that chlorines, chloramine and chlorine compounds were released into the air from the fire that destroyed the factory early Sunday morning.

The last major incident occurred in 2020 when a similar situation forced Interstate 20 to close for six hours.

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — Thousands of residents of Rockdale County are demanding answers days after a fire at the BioLab plant in Conyers. A class-action lawsuit has been filed against BioLab over a chemical fire that started on Sunday. Rockdale County residents Fannie and Albert Tart are filing individually and on behalf of other victims for real property-related damages caused by the chlorine-filled plume of smoke from the chemical fire.
